Dance Performance Teams

We are offering performance Teams for 2017 for students doing Classical ballet grade 3 or higher.  We discussed making these groups by invitation only.  However, I feel like this is not consistent with the way we operate as a school.  We really want to be inclusive!

These groups were the backbone of our studio in 2016.  These classes are my favourite each and every week!  The students in these classes gave, performed and shone all year!  I was so proud of them:-)  The commitment and enthusiasm of these dancers made it easy to teach them.

In these groups we will perform a variety of genres in a variety of venues.  We are obligated by a special lease agreement to provide 4 Christian performance pieces for St Luke's parish each year.  We also want each group to have a classical piece, a contemporary piece and perhaps a lyrical piece by the close of 2017.

Your student will be supplied with costumes at no cost to them throughout the year.  The only charge will be standard costume hire at the concert time. However, if they are damaged or left behind at a venue, the full replacement cost will be added to your account.

So that we give value to the students that are invested in this team, in 2017 we will request that only students wanting to perform regularly please book into the Performance Teams.  A lot of dancing is about the individual and working on your own technique,  but our performance teams are about the group.  It is about working together as a group and making a beautiful picture as a team.   Therefore participation and attendance reflects on the team not the individual.

We would love your dancer to be involved.  And we value their participation.  However so that we are fair to all of the team members, here are the expectations below for Performance Team Members.

  • All performance team members will be required at  most performances unless they are unwell or they have given reasonable notice so that their spot may be filled.
  • All performance team members will take care of the costumes and return them safely after each performance.
  • All performance team members will be kind and respectful towards each other and commit to building a sense of belonging and team for all participants, teachers and volunteers.
  • All performance team members will commit to hiding their underwear under their costumes.

Performances

We will be performing at St Luke's turn about.  So seniors term 1 and 3 and juniors term 2 and 4.  The rough dates we have so far could be changed - due to the changes taking place within the St Luke's parish.    Currently we have April 9, May 28 or June 4, Sunday September 17th, Sunday closest to 18th October.

I would love to be involved with Streets and Lanes again at Easter, however this is unconfirmed.

Christmas Wonderland was a fantastic success.  We would love to be involved with this again for any students still in Toowoomba over the Christmas holidays.

Fetes may be added to our schedule ad-hoc.  But we will give you plenty of notice!

Eisteddfods - due to the competitive nature of Eisteddfods, if we enter any Eisteddfods in 2017 these WILL be by invitation only.  However, everyone is welcome to request a solo, duet or group dance.  Please organise this through the office.

If you have any concerns or questions about the Performance Teams, please don't hesitate to contact us.
